Hannon

Hannon, Holly, and Jason raced the Tour de Winghaven over the weekend. Holly signed up for her first sanctioned crit race as a cat 4 with category 1, 2, and 3 women on the start line with her. Seemed like a brave move. When the gun fired her class started off - quickly. Holly said she stuck it out at 24 mph for as long as she could, but just couldn’t keep up for the entire race. We cheered for her as she took off and when she came around as loud as possible. Needless to say we couldn’t make enough noise to keep her up with the pack. She rode very well and says she will train harder and make her return to racing, possibly, on a Tuesday night.
Hannon and Jason raced the combined cat 2, 3 class with good results. The course was tough, with a gradual uphill section and two round-a-bouts on the finish line side of the course and a technical downhill on the opposite side. Our class started off with 97 riders. The peloton stayed together for most of the race with a few attacks that were covered handily. Leading up to the line was a tight left followed by a round-a-bout then an uphill sprint to the finish. Going into the left I knew I would have to be up front in order to have a chance at one of the 15 spots that paid out. I made a move before the corner passing quite a few riders, and setting myself up for a decent finish. Made it through the corner and the round-a-bout into the sprint. It was going well until a Dent Wizard rider crashed in front of me. I avoided the downed rider, but riding the brakes is not the way to win a sprint. Hannon came by and finished ahead of me which is really good, especially, considering this was one of his first races as a cat 3. He’s strong.
Overall, we had a good time and enjoyed the hospitality. The course was super fun! Thanks to all involved with putting on this event. What other race has a parking garage for racers?
